Frequent Asked Questions
What ages can attend Camp Houston Oaks?
-We have three camps available for 1st-6th graders and an additional camp at the end of June for 4 and 5 year olds only.
What are the hours of the camp?
-Camp 1,3,4, will run Mon-Wed 9-4, Thursday 9-4 (If you choose the Thursday night option, they will stay until the following day.)
-Friday 9-1 Ice Cream Social to follow 1:00-1:30 with parent accompaniment
-Camp 2 (4 and 5 yr old camp) Mon-Fri 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
What is the Thursday night option?
-This is an additional fee of $25 per camper but includes staying the night on the grounds at Houston Oaks. The First Tee building is equipped with bed rooms that can accommodate our campers and counselors. They will enjoy a delicious dinner, s’mores and a movie as well as breakfast the following morning. If you do not choose to participate in the overnight option, you will need to be picked up at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday and dropped off at 9:00 a.m. on Friday.
How will my child be grouped at camp?
-They will be grouped according to their grade level for the Fall 2013. We do this so when they are participating in an activity they are with children of similar ability.
Is the 30 limit total or per age?
-30 total per camp. We will accept registrations beginning March 1st. Once the camps are full, we will not accept anymore registrations to that camp. Members will be granted first available spots.
What activities will my child participate in this summer?
-The children will follow a daily schedule with their counselor that includes fishing, cycling, baseball, swimming (if qualified), arts and crafts, kickball, golf, tennis, paddle boating, cooking and we are hoping to add additional activities including archery and horseback riding this summer.
-In order to participate in swimming for Camp 1,3,4, the camper must pass a swimming test on the first day of camp. They will need to swim the length of the pool without any floatation device or assistance. If they cannot, they will be required to stay on the steps in the shallow area until they can pass the test.
-Children ages 4 and 5 will be exposed to most of the activities listed above, but in a much more limited and controlled environment. They will stay in the small pool during swimming and will not have a test.
Is there an option for “after hour” care, for those not the staying night but that can’t be picked up by 4 due to work?
-Yes, it is an additional $5 per hour per kid after 4:00. We also offer it 7:00-9:00 a.m. as well Monday-Friday.
What does the camp fee include?
-Five days of camp with lunch and snacks each day. Camp cap, t-shirt and water bottle and end of camp ice cream sundae.
Who is invited to the Friday ice cream social?
-Any family and friends are welcome to come. The campers’ cost of the ice cream social is included in the camp fee, but all additional guests will be charged $5 each. The social will take place under the covered pavilion unless otherwise noted by Camp Director.
Will there be activities for parents?
-Sorry, Camp Houston Oaks is just for the kids!
